Posture correction exercises for children/teenagers in a group

The human musculoskeletal system has the main – supportive – function: to hold our body in various positions. One of the most important positions is standing in upright. The standing position acts as a supporting base for any movement, so standing in upright, or posture, is particularly important in everyday and physical activities.

It is particularly important to pay attention to the ability of a young, rapidly physiologically developing individual to maintain a correct posture in everyday activities that involve active movement or sitting for too long. Postural disorders in children and teenagers are one of the most recurrent medical conditions. In order to prevent or stop the progression of postural disorders, specialists recommend that children and teenagers aged 9-14 attend organized posture correction exercises.

The program prepared by qualified physiotherapists will ensure the development of the essential qualities of correct posture: controlling the pelvis and surrounding muscles, strengthening the core muscles, developing the mobility of the thoracic spine, and strengthening the upper back and shoulder-blade muscles.

The mobility, strength, static and dynamic flexibility exercises not only correct the child’s posture, but also improve the overall physical capacity and exercise tolerance.

This exercise focuses on:

  • Control of the pelvis and surrounding muscles;
  • Strengthening of the core muscles;
  • Development of the mobility of the thoracic spine;
  • Strengthening of the shoulder-blade and upper back muscles;
  • Principles of correct posture when sitting, standing, or moving.

Recommended:

  • For children/teenagers with poor posture;
  • For those who want to learn the principles of correct posture;
  • For the prevention of the progression of abnormal posture.

Not recommended:

  • In acute, post-injury periods;
  • In chronic inflammation.
