Tensiomyography (TMG)

What is TMG (tensiomyography)?

It is a non-invasive, painless, fast, and accurate method of testing the patient’s contractile muscles properties using TMG S2 measurement equipment. The analysis of TMG test results assesses the condition of the muscles, their contraction speed, tone, fatigue, weakness, tension, asymmetry, and other characteristics related to the superficial muscles. The precise results obtained, once the weaknesses of the body have been identified, can help to identify the patient’s risk of injury, develop an effective exercise plan, or adjust and improve the existing plan for better results.

The test is of particular relevance for those:

  • Physically active, professionals or amateurs.
  • Who want to find out whether they are training effectively and whether there are risks of injury.
  • After various injuries to muscles, tendons, ligaments, bone fractures, during rehabilitation, to monitor whether rehabilitation is effective, and to assess progress.
  • Who want to know their body, avoid injuries, or improve their athletic performance.

Procedure:  electrodes are placed on the muscle to be tested, a special sensor is positioned for TMG measurements on the muscle, and an electrical impulse is emitted to provoke contraction of the muscle. The special sensor is connected to a computer program that records the skeletal muscles’ contractile properties and presents them on the computer for analysis. Testing of a single muscle, a group of muscles, or the whole body is possible, and the duration of the test depends on the number of muscles selected (testing of a single muscle takes up to 5 minutes).

*All superficial muscles can be tested where electrodes can be placed.

Benefits of TMG test results:

If you arrive for an appointment without a referral

For physiotherapists:

For trainers

- Post-injury assessment (to determine whether you are ready for physical activity after the injury);

- Knowing your body (weak point analysis);

- If you opt for a physiotherapy consultation + TMG + exercise program, an additional physiotherapy assessment will be performed. Based on the results, the physiotherapist at Pes Planus will individually create an exercise program plan

- Lateral and functional muscle symmetry analysis data; - Identification of weak, slow, or stiff muscles; - Recording and monitoring rehabilitation progress; - Assessment of the athlete’s readiness to return to the field; - The data provided will also help to create an effective and tailored sports or exercise rehabilitation program.

- Determination of effectiveness and evenness of strength training and whether muscle imbalance has developed; - Identification of weak, slow, or stiff muscles; - Possibility to compare team players’ data and discover recurring factors (Comparison of muscle imbalance in team players.) - Determination of risk of injury and whether the athlete is ready for an increase in physical activity; - Helping to accurately create a training program.
